Since 1962, Koestler Arts has run the UK’s longest-standing arts awards programme for people in prisons, secure hospitals, youth offender institutions, immigration removal centres, on probation or on community sentences. A gift in your Will of any size helps ensure that work continues into the future.
The people closest to you take priority; a gift in your Will to Koestler Arts is something many of our supporters choose to consider only once family and friends have been provided for. And whatever you decide, you are free to change your mind at any time.
Ways to leave a gift
There are three main types of gift in a Will, and your solicitor can advise on which suits your circumstances. Many supporters find a residuary gift the most meaningful; it grows with your estate and typically delivers the greatest impact.
Most common
Residuary gift
A percentage of your estate after debts, taxes, and other gifts are settled. Even 1% can be significant, and this type of gift keeps pace with the value of your estate over time.
Pecuniary gift
A fixed sum
A specific amount of money, for example, £500 or £5,000.
Specific gift
An item or asset
A particular possession – shares, property, or a work of art. Please contact us before including this type of gift so we can discuss what we are best placed to receive.
Janet’s story
“When my parents passed away I decided to give a portion of their residual estate to Koestler Arts, having been aware of their wonderful work for some time.
The letters I received about how the gift would be spent reassured me that I had made the right decision in choosing them. I also appreciated the award that was granted in the name of my parents which I got to see in person at their National Exhibition. It was clear the artwork chosen for the award in my parents’ name had been carefully selected based on what Koestler Arts had been told about my mum and dad.
It is good to know that the money my parents left behind when they died was put to good use by Koestler Arts and, more personally for me it was heartening to be treated by Koestler with such care and compassion at a difficult time.”
