An evening of poetry and spoken word

Our popular Voices from Prison event returned in 2022, for an evening of poetry and spoken word featuring performances and readings from the 2022 Koestler Awards, with contributions from a range of artists and writers engaged with Koestler Arts, including former Koestler Award entrants.

Hosted by the captivating speaker Fusion, aka the Transformative Storyteller, audiences were guided through various stories of how creativity can transform the lives of people in secure settings, hearing from former Koestler Awards entrants, artists on our mentoring programme, and art tutors from secure establishments. Our performers took turns reading or performing some of their favourite written entries, and were each time met with huge applause.

The event was part of the programme for Freedom, our 2022 annual UK exhibition of fine art, craft, music, writing and spoken word, curated by Ai Weiwei, at Southbank Centre.
