2,000 pieces of feedback later…
Posted on theAs the 2024 Koestler Awards cycle winds down, we’ve been reflecting on a busy autumn at the Koestler Arts Centre, which was buzzing with lots of lovely volunteers helping our drive to provide feedback to as many Awards entrants as possible.
This year, that was quite a tall order, with nearly 3600 entrants submitting work into the competition. But, our team of volunteers was more than up to the challenge! Over the course of 16 special feedback days hosted by Koestler Arts, nearly 150 creatives, artists, teachers, musicians, writers, and prison and charity workers visited the premises to pen their thoughts to the artists.
We asked our guests what stood out to them about their experience writing feedback, and many were ‘blown away’ by the sheer volume of entries and the incredible talent on display;
‘I love the way all the artwork is displayed everywhere, which feels as if it is valued which is so lovely to experience. I really find the team and volunteers’ respect for the artists and their work so heart-warming.’
Reflecting on the value of art ‘inside’, many expressed their belief that art engenders hope;
‘I really felt the value of the practice of creating art – the time that the artists would have spent devising and creating their work and their courage in sharing it for external consideration.’
Over the course of the feedback days, our volunteers completed nearly 2,000 pieces of personalised feedback, which has now been sent on to our entrants across the criminal justice system. Thank you to all those who made this happen.
